After the first part of our Study Abroad in Costa Rica we left the Soltis Center and headed out to La Fortuna with Dr. Brannstrom.
It was still early in the day so once we got there a small group and myself set out to start our first activity. As we followed the route we came across fields of pineapples, which were still freshly planted. Farther down the road there was a trail that led out to the fields. Four of us started walking down when we had to cross a small creek about 3 feet high of water. We came across large fields of plantains and freshly plowed areas. From here we took a long back road by walking around the back of the fields just to come back around to where we first began. Unfortunately, we forgot to tell the others we wouldn’t be coming back so Dr. Brannstrom went to go find us. Eventually we met up and spent the rest of the day walking around La Fortuna and exploring the town and shops. Lunch and dinner was great because of the price and the amount of food we got for a casados.
Thanks to Costa Rica, I now love plantains and coffee.

On Monday, June 27th we woke up early and went to Cahuita. We went to the beach in the Cahuita National Park and swam. On the way to the beach, we saw a sloth on a tree. It was very cool. The waves were extremely high. We swam for about an hour and had lots [...]

Hace una mes que estudio geografía aqui en Costa Rica, and now, I am done. Yesterday, I watched as my fellow study abroad students walked toward the Continental Airlines ticket counter to begin their journey to the United States. Some were quite excited to return home, while others felt a special bond to Costa Rica [...]

The intrepid band of explorers and I are in Liberia, Costa Rica. Our assignment for the day was to explore the city and compare the actual layout with a previously developed city structure model. Basically this just means walk around and look at stuff. My walking buddy and I decided we were going to go [...]

While staying in Playas del Coco, a group of us rented a golf cart and some bikes and rode to Playa Ocotal. It was only a 10 minute ride and definately worth it! It was a beautiful sunny day, the sand was white and the water was a greenish blue color. On one side of [...]

When we woke up this morning in Playa del Coco, it was raining a lot. Everyone had planned to go to a different beach right down the road today, but the rain ruined that plan at first. It didn’t stop raining until around 3 ish, so we were kinda forced to just stay at the [...]

Today was our last day in Limon. By this point I had a better understanding of the city that had once seemed foreign and rather scary to me. I now knew to expect stares and yells when walking down the street and it no longer bothered me. I also felt alot more comfortable trying new [...]

Today is June 29th and it is my 22nd birthday! I had decided that I wanted to spend the day on a beautiful nearby beach rather than explore the city of Puerto Limon which we had done all yesterday gathering information for our repeat photography assignment. So, almost everyone in the study abroad group and [...]

Today was our last full day in Costa Rica. A group of us decided to go to the beach again today and so we took a public bus to Cahuita. I was suprised at how nice the bus station was and the first bus was pretty nice as well. I think that I was expecting [...]

Today was our last day in Costa Rica. To start off the day we woke up around 7:00am and had breakfast downstairs in the restaurant. The plan was to go to Cahuita National Park and then go to the soccer game once we got back. The bus systems weren’t as hard to figure out as [...]
